Speech Night

Last night we had Speech Night where ten people from our classrooms shared their speeches with their parents. We had three MC's which were creative and very enthusiastic. Before we started some people were nervous but everyone did an awesome job. At the end we got certificates and got to bow so the audience could show their appreciation.
These are our wonderful speech finalists.

Here are our entertaining MC's.

Extraordinary Athletics Day

Phew! Athletics day is over and done with. Last week we had our Athletics day at school and we had to do lots of activities. They were sprints, long jump, high jump, ball throw and relays. The sun was stremaing down upon everybody who was competing. We had fun and enjoyed our day with our friends. We were so happy when we found out where we had come, some people didn't come anywhere but we all tried our best. Everybody had a good time watching the sprint finals. The relays were cool to watch as well, it was funny to watch the adults do their relay too.

Speeches are Awesome!

The time has come for school speeches! Everyone in our class has been preparing a speech to share with the rest of the class. We have been working as hard as we can. The top ten in our class get to read their speech at Speech Night. Some topics are being the Prime Minister, Bedroom Makeovers, Superheroes, Teachers, Smurfs, School, Pets, Ipods and other cool stuff. We only do this once every two years.
For our speech we have to practise standing properly, knowing it off by heart, eye contact, using a loud voice and keeping our cue cards down low so we don't read from them or mumble.

For homework this week we are practising, practising and doing some more practising of our speech!

Write a comment listing what your speech is about.

The All Blacks Victory!!!

Victory is ours! After 24 years we finally win the Rugby World Cup! We still can't believe that we've won the Webb Ellis Cup, what a great achievement. Our country is so proud and excited! Tony Woodcock scored the first and only try for the All Blacks and Stephen Doanlad kicked the penalty kick which some say won us the game. We can't believe that we were only one point ahead. When we were watching it at home we were all really nervous. Everybodies hearts were pounding just beofre the last minute of the game. The players were all really emotional after the game. Richie McCaw was exhausted just like the rest of his team, they had played so hard. Even two days later we are still celebrating the victory. Go the All Blacks!!!

Popcorn Catastrophe

Fire fire! Off went the fire alarm. We all rushed down to the field by the cricket pitch.
What had happened was that today when some student teachers took some science lessons one group was making popcorn. The frying pan burnt the popcorn and the smoke from the popcorn set off the fire alarm. The whole school thought it was a real fire but it actually wasn't. Our class knew the truth behind the alarm. It was really popcorn!
We couldn't leave the field until all the classes had come. Finally the fire alarms stopped and we went back to our classes. As we walked in the door the smell of burning popcorn filled the air.

Red, Yellow, All Black!

Today we went to the Museum. We went to see an exhibition about rugby. We learnt a lot about rugby at the museum. We found out that a rugby ball used to be made out of a pig's bladder. We also found out that during a rugby game a player can sweat up to 6 litres of water. In one part of the exhibition we actually did a lot of the things rugby players do when they train. It was lots of fun!

Super Ag Day

It's only two more days until Ag Day! There are two things we could be involved in - either Horticultural Happenings or having an animal. The types of animals that compete in Ag Day are calves, kids or lambs. If you don't have an animal you compete in the Horticultural Happenings. If you do this you could make scarecrows, decorate a gumboot, decorate a biscuit/cupcake or make a recycled model.
The children with animals can choose what events they compete in. There is leading, rearing, call follow and run, dairy type, obstacles course and most obvious pet.
We hope we have an awesome day and remember to bring what we need!!

Jump Jam Rocks!

Nearly everyday we do Jump Jam and have a lot of fun! We are super good at it. Jump Jam is a dancing programme that you copy moves from and then do them yourself. There are some songs that we like and some that are a bit harder than others. We dance to songs like boom boom pow and fire (hey, hey, hey!) We love getting fit and listening to music. There is even a dancer of the day each day and sometimes even two or three!

Wheels Day

Today we are having a wheels day at school and lots of people have brought wheels. The types of wheels could include Ripstiks, Scooters, Rollerblades and Skateboards. Sadly we weren't allowed to bring bikes but we are still going to have lots of fun anyway. If it works out and everyone is sensible we might have it every Friday at lunchtime. We are lucky it is a fine day in Hamilton today so we can enjoy our fantastic day outside.

Our Reports on Spiders

Here is our plan for writing a report about spiders. We tried to gather our information and group it in the right way. We are now ready to put all our information together in a report! To write a report you need to:
1. Have a title
2. Write an introduction with a definition of the report topic
3. Write a description and have our information grouped properly
4. Write a conclusion summing up the report topic

The Longest Fingernails in the World

We all read about a lady today that had the longest fingernails in the world! When we saw the picture we were a bit digusted. After talking about it we found out that if your fingernails grow long enough you won't be able to cut them because they might have veins in them. It is gross to think about. Some of us said that the nails were revolting and too long. If you look in the Guinness World Book of records 2012 you will find this lady. In the picture her nails are smothered in gold nail polish. We think it would have taken about an hour a metre to paint them and there are 6 metres of them!

What would living on another planet be like?

Today we were exploring a new website for kids and we found an article on a possible new planet that scientists have discovered. We discovered that it is possible that humans could maybe live on this planet. This is becasue it is in the 'goldilocks zone' which means it is not too hot and not too cold just like the story goldilocks. We don't know the name of the planet but we came up with a name for it. It is Heatrae because the planet is hotter than earth but it is similar in other ways and Heatrae is earth spelt backwards with an extra e and a. What do you think living on this planet would be like?

McCaw Gains a Milestone

McCaw strikes 100! This Friday Richie McCaw is going to play his 100th Test Match for the All Blacks and Mils is right behind him. We are so excited becasue it is the first time in All Black history that someone has played for the All Blacks that many times. Mils Muliaina is going to be playing his 99th Test Match on Friday as well. We know that they will both be great. On Friday the All Blacks are going to be playing Japan in Hamilton at the mighty Waikato Stadium.
We can't wait to see McCaw and his team as they dive into action.
GO THE ALL BLACKS!

The RWC Opening Ceremony

Two days to go! Today we read about the RWC opening ceremony. We found lots of informtaion about it and we can't wait to watch it on TV. We found out that there might be tens of thousands of people travelling into Auckland to watch the opening ceremony, but we will probably be sitting on our couches watching our telly having popcorn. We aslo found out that for just ONE night they will be spending $2.7 million for the opening of the RWC. Three and a half tonnes of fireworks will be used and it will be the BIGGEST fireworks display New Zealand has ever seen. We can't wait for the fireworks to be launched. Some of us feel a bit sad that we can't go but we will still enjoy it anyway.

Rugby World Cup

Today we made a tagxedo where we brainstormed all the words we could that were related to the Rugby World Cup which starts this week. We chose the colours black and white to use because we thought it matched our national team 'The All Blacks'. The shape we used was a heart because we LOVE that the Rugby World Cup is going to be held in our country.

Mooloo Kids

When we arrived at school today lots of people were wearing red, black and yellow. This is because our local Waikato team got into the New Zealand final and we want to support them. We are really excited and are hoping that they play a good game. All of us hope that they do their best and try to win. Go Waikato!!

Cross Country

Pitter patter went the rain when we started our races. We heard the whistle blow and we were off running as fast as we could. We went speeding around the corners and over the hay bales. We were like bullets taking off. Our hearts were pounding like a drum. We heard the crowd cheering wildly as we approached the finish line, we were speechless because of what we had conquered. Lots of us had achieved our goals and we felt we had succeeded. At the end of the day we were all proud of ourselves and went home feeling fantastic! The people who made it into the top ten can't wait until next Tuesday to compete against other schools.
